Hockey Northeast in coordination with the Atlantic Youth Hockey League is proud to establish the North Atlantic Hockey Challenge (NAHC). This is the first weekend of the challenge in which six HNE at each age level will represent the HNE vs. six AYHL teams in the first ever North Atlantic Hockey Challenge. The 2001's will play in the Avaitor Rink in Brooklyn, NY and the 1999s and 2002s will play in the Ice House in Hackensack, NJ.
The NAHC was established to coordinate opportunities to play teams outside the league but offer a control on the quality competition that tournaments do not always offer. It was also established in respect of parents and organizations realizing that that many current tournament structures are not respectful of the academic schedules of the student athletes, so both showcases and the playoffs will be scheduled to allow for students not to have to miss school time for rink time. HNE and AYHL each picked six teams from the organizations that wanted to represent at each age level from their leagues to play each other in this challenge. One showcase will be in AYHL rinks, one showcase will be in HNE rinks, and then a championship for the teams with the best records in the challenge.
In the first year of the challenge there are teams in the ages 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 with 16 organizations being represented in the NAHC over these five age divisions.
Below is the schedule for the first showcase and watch the HNE website for on-going updates on the NAHC as the season progresses.
